El Corazón (4788 m) is an ancient, eroded and extinct volcano in Ecuador Western Andes. This mountain is an excellent acclimatisation mountain but we recommend that you do not make it your first mountain to hike up, as it is a very long day with 1100 – 1400 meters of elevation gain. Corazón means ‘heart’and is said to refer to two gullies on the northwest slopes which when seen from a distance look like a heart.
Departure at 7 am from Quito. We are heading south and pass a town called Machachi, which is at 4200m.
The hike to the summit of the Corazon Volcano at 4788m takes about 4-6 hours. On the way you can see gorgeous landscapes – if it is not too cloudy!
On the top your box lunch will be served and you get some time to rest. Then we return back to the car and will be back in Quito at about 5 to 6 pm.
