Following the tracks of the Condors!

This famous trek starting from El Tambo (near Papallacta) is being described as one of the most beautiful treks in Ecuador!Walking through the Paramo grasslands on the slopes of the volcanoes Antisana and Cotopaxi -and when you are lucky huge condors circle above and herds of lamas passing your way!

Day 1 
Departure from Quito at 9 am with private transport. You drive about 2 hours to a place called Tambo at 3400 m. Here you start your moderate 4 hour hike. Arriving at lovely “Laguna de Volcan” at 3900 m to camp, in sight of an amazing ancient lava flow frozen in time, which you can explore if you arrive early. You will have dinner there and then time to rest in your tents.

Day 2 
You have to get up at 8 am. After breakfast you start your hike towards the second camp Santa Lucia at 4100. You will walk for 6 to 7 hours and on your way you will rewarded with stunning views and get the chance to see various typical plants, flowers, animals and birds of the Andean mountains. You will also walk by the slopes of the Antisana volcano and pass there the highest point of the tour at 4350m. By arriving at the refuge you will have dinner and rest.

Day 3
Breakfast at 8am. Then trek for 6 to 7 hours to the third camp Sincholagua at 4000 m. With a little bit of luck you can see condors flying above you – as they have their nests in this area. Dinner and rest at the camp.

Day 4 
Breakfast at 8 am. Then you continue the trek for another 5 to 6 hours towards the Cotopaxi National Park. Here you get picked up from a driver and return to Quito at about 4 to 5 pm.
