The ultimate challenge – climb the highest mountain in Ecuador!

For many years the Chimborazo (6310m) was thought to be the highest mountain in the world. Due to the height, proper acclimatization is essential- so you must have been in the sierra for at least a week and climbed above 5000 meters (preferably Cotopaxi) in that time. Snow up to the knees is not uncommon and a high level of fitness is required as the summit climb will certainly push you to your physical limits.

Prepare for trekking and glacier climbing, not for the faint of heart.

Day 1
Departure from Quito at 9 am in private transportation. You drive south for about 5 hours until you reach the first refuge of the Volcano Chimborazo at 4800 m. You hike up for 200m with all your equipment to the second refuge at 5000 m. You get lunch, will go through the details with the guides for the next days climb and have dinner at 6 pm. Then you can rest until 11 pm.

Day 2
You get up, have breakfast and get ready for the climb. Around 12:00 am you leave the refuge. As soon as you reach the glacier, you put on crampons and rope up in teams. Each guide will take one or two persons. If all goes well, you reach the summit called Whymper at 6310 m between 8:00am and 9:00am after a 7 to 8 hours climb. On the top you have about 20 minutes to take a rest, take some pictures and enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the Andean mountains. The return to the refuge takes about 3 to 4 hours. You leave for Quito after picking up your things at the refuge Return around 4 to 5 pm.
